Born in 1968 in a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark, Tonny Skammelsen studied Graphic Design at the Copenhagen Technical School, graduating in 1987. Following a series of successful exhibitions in Denmark, he relocated to Portugal in 2001.
In Portugal, he found the light, tranquility, and environment necessary to continue developing his artistic practice. Looking back, the move proved to be an essential step in his artistic evolution and personal growth.
Over the years, Tonny has worked in five very different studio spaces, including a Copenhagen apartment, a terrace, a garage, a dedicated art studio, and a poorly lit basement. These varied environments have each contributed to his creative journey. Despite the challenges of some of these workspaces, he continues to dream of a studio filled with natural light, large windows, and sunshine—a place that fully reflects her vision and passion for creating art.
